To take another and a rather bizarre example, cannibalism may have been eliminated because human meat is a tough, "inferior" variety of meat. As incomes have grown, man has voluntarily shifted to more tender, "superior" varieties. One piece of evidence on the inferiority of human meat is that animals generally eat it only when near starvation - when their opportunities are depressed.
